What services are offered and who can benefit from them?

One-on-one sessions: We specialize in working with children K-12 whose needs have not been met in a traditional classroom. We provide instruction in language processing, phonemic awareness, decoding, writing, comprehension, and strengthening executive functioning skills.

Group sessions: The Flow State: A weekly homeschool club designed specifically for homeschooled teens to connect with peers while mastering the art of self-management.

IEP consulting: We will meet with you to discuss and/or review your child's current IEP, help you identify and write new goals, and attend IEP meetings.

What will a session be like?

At Pine & Palm, we believe in “seeking first to understand.” Every child is unique, so we tailor goals and lessons to their needs.

Rooted in holistic, neurodiversity-affirming practices, we use the research-backed Orton-Gillingham program, Lindamood-Bell cognitive processes, and Tera Sumpter's executive function methodologies. This structured, multisensory approach supports reading, comprehension, and writing. After an initial assessment, we design personalized lessons delivered one-on-one, either in-person or virtually.

Executive Functioning

Executive Functioning

Executive Functioning

What's involved

  • Typically, when a child is struggling, the root cause is a deficit within the executive functioning system. Whether your child struggles with decoding, writing, or comprehension, at Pine & Palm, we focus on developing weakness(es) within the executive functioning system.

  • While schools often teach executive functioning by teaching organization or how to use a planner, it "doesn't work" because organization and using a planner are "flower skills." Flowers cannot exist without their roots. Per Tera Sumpter's methodology, we start with "root skills," continue to "leaf skills" and finally, end by developing the "flower skills."

  • Root skills: perception, attention, verbal & nonverbal working memory, inhibition
  • Leaf skills: cognitive flexibility, initiation, self-monitoring, self-correcting, self-modulation, emotional regulation, time sense & pacing
  • Flower skills: planning, anticipating, analyzing, prioritizing, organizing, balancing & decision-making

The Flow State: A weekly homeschool club

New for 2026!

What's involved

  • The Flow State is a social club designed specifically for homeschooled teens to connect with peers while mastering the art of self-management.
  • In addition to a social hangout, the club focuses on strengthening essential executive functioning skills that bridge the gap between potential and action.
  • Through collaborative activities and peer support, members learn to effectively initiate, execute, and self-evaluate.
  • By improving their ability to manage pacing and time, students gain the heightened awareness necessary to become truly self-directed in both their academic pursuits and daily life skills.
